About
Cinema Obscure is an online blog devoted to serious, and not so serious observation of cinema and the art and technology of making films; from pop-corn to art house indies, it is an obsession and dream.
Goddard said that cinema is truth 24 frames a second.
De Palma said that the camera lies 24 times a second.
I think of it as both ways.
Cinema is making a reality I choose, whether through observation or creation.
I hope you enjoy my rants and raves and from time to time, insight and opinion on the wonderful world of cinema and filmmaking.

Who am I ?
J.R. Hudson (I know, photogenic.)
Father, filmmaker, San Diego Native.
I am a struggling filmmaker, wannabe, cinephile, junkie of cinema whose main interest is selfishly post 1970’s. When not working in real life and raising my son, I’m either here or moderating at dvxuser.com, a virtual film school community, playing basketball or tennis or enjoying a nice bottle of red wine. It doesn’t make for much time for actual filmmaking, but until I conquer my undiagnosed ADD, that’s the way it is. If you want to see some stuff I’ve done, contact me and I’ll point it out.

The first film I remember seeing was Steven Spielberg’s JAWS. I was 5 or 6 years old and my mother had taken me to the drive-in in South Bay (San Diego). She burned me with a cigarette that evening (I think it was an accident). I fell asleep, but the film left an impression on me that has never died.
This was about my expression sitting there in my Mom’s VW Bug watching the film.

The first film I saw in the walk in theatre was The Spy Who Loved Me. I remember my jaw hitting the floor as 007 escaped off the cliff and started his freefall and the musical score stopped and all I could hear was wind, and then he opened his chute and the Bond theme kicked in. Wow. Blew me away.
I was going to put a grab of Bond and the parachute scene but Barabra Bach is just too hot.

So thank you for checking my blog out. I hope I can at least entertain one person.
